Sea Grill Restaurant at Hotel Puente Romano, Marbella
The old Beach Club at Hotel Puente Romano, Marbella, Spain used to have a quite depressing atmosphere due to the outdated interior and décor created by pitch dark timber beams and a dilapidated brezo roof cover that was practically falling apart. Quite the opposite of what one would expect from one of the Leading Hotels of the World.
It was obvious that the venue was in urgent need of a facelift and overall revamp.
During October 2012, Cape Reed, in conjunction with ATD architects and a competent builder , were assigned to transform the entire Beach Club into a modern Mediterranean restaurant – to be suitably named The Sea Grill, complete with an adjacent pool bar and outside pool area.
The very first challenge was to properly clean the existing roofs from the old rotten brezo roof cover and other debris from the restaurant, The Sea Grill. Secondly, the timber roof structures had to be reinforced to enable it to carry the much heavier weight of the new Cape Reed thatch roof, which accounts to be eight times heavier than the original brezo cover. To properly install the cape reed thatch, more than 1600 running meters of pre-selected, pressure treated timber battens had to be fixed to the outside of the existing roof structures.
In total seven roofs were thatched with cape reed, to a minimum thickness of 180mm – in the process using an astounding 27,817 bundles of thatch!!
The existing timber structures were upgraded by painting it in a new modern, classy white wash finish.
Together with the stylish new thatched roofs, the Sea Grill now provides a fittingly perfect ambiance for one of the premium restaurants of the world.
